The funding now heads to the President to be signed into law
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she secured $18,493,000 for twelve fire stations and emergency services facilities throughout Maine in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Agriculture and Rural Development and the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) appropriations bills. The bills, which were included in legislation that passed the Senate today, now head to the President to be signed into law.
“Firefighters, first responders, and emergency response professionals across Maine courageously and selflessly put their lives on the line to serve our towns and cities,” said Senator Collins. “As Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I worked to secure this funding that will help to ensure that Maine’s first responders have the adequate facilities needed to do their jobs as effectively and safely as possible.”
Funding secured by Senator Collins for Maine fire stations and emergency service facilities in the FY 2024 Agriculture and Rural Development and THUD appropriations bills is as follows:
Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department Upgrade
Recipient: City of Caribou
Project Location: Caribou, ME
Amount Requested: $1,359,000
Project Purpose: To rehabilitate the Caribou Fire Department's living quarters for first responders and improve ADA-accessibility.
Paris Fire Station Generator Replacement
Recipient: Town of Paris
Project Location: Paris, ME
Amount Requested: $134,000
Project Purpose: To replace the Paris Fire Station generator.
Maine Fire Service Institute
Recipient: Southern Maine Community College
Project Location: South Portland, ME
Amount Requested: $500,000
Project Purpose: To construct an equipment and training storage facility for use by the Maine Fire Service Institute.
Sweden Fire Station
Recipient: Town of Sweden
Project Location: Sweden, ME
Amount Requested: $1,150,000
Project Purpose: To build a new, modern fire station, replacing the existing outdated facility.
Westbrook Regional Vocational Center
Recipient: Westbrook School Department
Project Location: Westbrook, ME
Amount Requested: $1,500,000
Project Purpose: To construct a vocational fire training facility.
Franklin County Emergency Operations Center
Recipient: Franklin County Commissioner’s Office
Project Location: Farmington, ME

Project Purpose: To construct a consolidated facility for county-wide emergency response services.
Sinclair Fire Station
Recipient: North Lakes Fire & Rescue
Project Location: Sinclair, ME
Amount Requested: $2,250,000
Project Purpose: To construct a new fire station in Sinclair.
Springfield Fire Station and Municipal Facility
Recipient: Town of Springfield
Project Location: Springfield, ME

Project Purpose: To build a new facility to house the fire station, town office, and warming shelter.
Hancock Fire Station

Project Purpose: To construct a new fire station.
Randolph Fire Station

Bath Fire and EMS Station

Project Purpose: To construct a new fire and EMS station.
Brownfield Public Safety Building

Project Location: Brownfield, ME
Amount Requested: $2,898,000
Project Purpose: To construct a new public safety building housing the fire department, the Oxford County Sheriff substation, and emergency operations centers.
In 2021, Congress reinstituted Congressionally Directed Spending. Following this decision, Senator Collins has secured more than $500 million for hundreds of Maine projects for FY2022 and FY2023.
