Congress Approves More than $8 Million for Eight Maine Community, Municipal Facilities Secured by Senator Collins

The funding now heads to the President to be signed into law

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she secured $8,007,000 for the construction and continued advancement of eight community and municipal facilities throughout Maine in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Agriculture and Rural Development appropriations bill.  The bill, which was included in legislation that passed the Senate today, now heads to the President to be signed into law.

“Towns throughout Maine rely on community and municipal facilities for essential services,” said Senator Collins.  “As Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I worked hard to secure this funding, which will support the construction or rehabilitation of community and municipal buildings from Hollis to St. Agatha.”

Details on the Maine community and municipal facilities projects Senator Collins secured through the FY 2024 Agriculture and Rural Development appropriations bill are below:

St. Agatha Municipal Building

Recipient: Town of St. Agatha 

Project Location: St. Agatha, ME 

Amount Requested: $450,000 

Project Purpose: To construct an ADA-compliant municipal building that serves as an emergency response and warning center.   

 

Carmel Municipal Facility Renovation and Expansion

Recipient: Town of Carmel 

Project Location: Carmel, ME 

Amount Requested: $937,000 

Project Purpose: To renovate and expand the current municipal facility, which includes the public safety station and administrative offices. 

 

Howland Road Salt/Sand Facility Relocation

Recipient: Town of Howland 

Project Location: Howland, ME 

Amount Requested: $1,200,000 

Project Purpose: To relocate the Road Salt/Sand facility to meet environmental standards. 

 

Addison Community Center Renovation

Recipient: Friends of Church on the Hill 

Project Location: Addison, ME 

Amount Requested: $750,000 

Project Purpose: To renovate a national historic landmark that serves as a community center for residents of Addison and the surrounding towns. 

 

Hollis Municipal Facility

Recipient: Town of Hollis 

Project Location: Hollis, ME 

Amount Requested: $2,000,000 

Project Purpose: To construct a new, handicapped-accessible municipal facility/town hall in Hollis. 

 

Hartland Irving Tanning Community Center 

Recipient: Irving Tanning Community Center 

Project Location: Hartland, ME 

Amount Requested: $238,000 

Project Purpose: To renovate the community center in Hartland.

 

Union Hall Restoration

Recipient: Town of Columbia Falls 

Project Location: Columbia Falls, ME 

Amount Requested: $17,000 

Project Purpose: To restore the historic Union Hall. 

 

Southwest Harbor Public Works Facility    

Recipient: Town of Southwest Harbor 

Project Location: Southwest Harbor, ME 

Amount Requested: $2,415,000 

Project Purpose: To replace the aging public works facility. 

 

In 2021, Congress reinstituted Congressionally Directed Spending. Following this decision, Senator Collins has secured more than $500 million for hundreds of Maine projects for FY2022 and FY2023.  As the Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Collins is committed to championing targeted investments that will benefit Maine communities.
