Congress Approves More Than $40 Million for Maine Wastewater Infrastructure Secured by Senator Collins

The funding now heads to the President to be signed into law

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she secured $40,433,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending for wastewater development projects throughout Maine in the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies appropriations bill.  The bill, which was included in legislation that passed the Senate today, now heads to the President to be signed into law.

“Wastewater facilities play an important role in the health, economic success, and environmental sustainability of rural towns throughout Maine,” said Senator Collins.  “As Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I worked hard to secure this funding, which will support critical updates to wastewater systems across the State, helping communities thrive for years to come.”

Town of Baileyville Sewer Department for Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements

Recipient: Town of Baileyville Sewer Department 

Project Location: Baileyville, ME 

Amount Requested: $1,500,000 

Project Purpose: To upgrade wastewater infrastructure in Baileyville. 

 

Town of Castine for Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements

Recipient: Town of Castine 

Project Location: Castine, ME 

Amount Requested: $1,760,000 

Project Purpose: To upgrade wastewater infrastructure in Castine. 

 

Corinna Sewer District for Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements

Project Purpose: To upgrade the wastewater infrastructure that serves Maine School Administrative District #52. 

 

Town of Winslow for Water and Sewer Infrastructure Upgrades

Recipient: Town of Winslow

Amount Requested: $3,000,000 

Project Purpose: To improve water and sewer infrastructure in Winslow. 

 

Winterport Water District for Winterport Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades

Recipient: Winterport Water District

Town of Wiscasset for Wastewater Infrastructure Improvements

Project Purpose: To improve wastewater infrastructure in Wiscasset. 

 

In 2021, Congress reinstituted Congressionally Directed Spending.  Following this decision, Senator Collins has secured more than $500 million for hundreds of Maine projects for FY2022 and FY2023.  As the Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Collins is committed to championing targeted investments that will benefit Maine communities.
