The funding now heads to the President to be signed into law
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she secured $2,530,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending for transportation improvements and services throughout Maine in the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) appropriations bill. The bill, which was included in legislation that passed the Senate today, now heads to the President to be signed into law.
“This funding will allow for the reconstruction and expansion of sidewalks, roads, and transportation services,” said Senator Collins. “As Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I worked hard to secure this funding, which will help increase safety and accessibility in communities throughout the State of Maine,
Funding secured by Senator Collins for Maine transportation projects in the FY 2024 THUD appropriations bill is as follows:
Enfield Route 155 Rehabilitation
Recipient: Town of Enfield
Project Location: Enfield, ME
Amount Requested: $1,000,000
Project Purpose: To rehabilitate Route 155 from the intersection of Route 2 to Route 188.
Mi'kmaq Transportation Safety Improvements
Recipient: Mi’kmaq Nation
Project Location: Presque Isle, ME
Amount Requested: $530,000
Project Purpose: To improve the streets and sidewalks by Bon-Aire housing site.
America’s Volunteer Driver Center
Recipient: ITNAmerica
Project Location: Westbrook, ME
Amount Requested: $1,000,000
Project Purpose: To develop, plan, and support nonprofit volunteer transportation.
In 2021, Congress reinstituted Congressionally Directed Spending. Following this decision, Senator Collins has secured more than $500 million for hundreds of Maine projects for FY2022 and FY2023. As the Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Collins is committed to championing targeted investments that will benefit Maine communities.
