Congress Approves More Than $126 Million for MaineDOT Secured by Senator Collins
The funding now heads to the President to be signed into law
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she secured $126,558,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending for the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) through the Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) appropriations bill. The bill, which was included in legislation that passed the Senate today, now heads to the President to be signed into law.
“Improving Maine’s transportation infrastructure is one of my top priorities,” said Senator Collins. “This funding will enhance the safety and efficiency of our transportation network while growing our economy, helping Mainers and tourists reach their destinations faster.”
Funding secured by Senator Collins for MaineDOT in the FY24 THUD appropriations bill is as follows:
Route 109 Reconstruction
Recipient: Maine Department of Transportation
Project Location: Acton, ME
Amount Requested: $6,000,000
Project Purpose: To reconstruct a portion of Route 109 in Acton.
Cross Lake Township – New Canada State Route 161 Reconstruction
Recipient: Maine Department of Transportation
Project Location: Aroostook County, ME
Amount Requested: $10,400,000
Project Purpose: To reconstruct a portion of State Route 161 from Cross Lake Township to New Canada.
US Route 1 at State Road Reconstruction
Recipient: Maine Department of Transportation
Project Location: Bath, ME
Amount Requested: $2,800,000
Project Purpose: To reconstruct the intersection of US Route 1 and State Road in Bath and make pedestrian improvements.
Bath Workforce Transportation Study
Recipient: Maine Department of Transportation
Project Location: Bath, ME
Amount Requested: $1,000,000
Project Purpose: To conduct a feasibility and planning study for workforce transportation needs in the City of Bath.
Route 22 at Broadturn Road Intersection Improvements

Amount Requested: $3,500,000
Project Purpose: To convert the intersection of Route 22 and Broadturn Road in Buxton, a high crash location, into a roundabout configuration.
Fort Kent State Route 161 Reconstruction

Project Purpose: To reconstruct a portion of State Route 161 in Fort Kent.
Farmington – Eustis, State Route 27 Rehabilitation

Project Purpose: To rehabilitate State Route 27 from Farmington to Eustis.

Old Town Llewellyn Estes Bridge Replacement

Project Purpose: To repair the Llewellyn Estes Bridge (formerly the Stillwater Bridges), which crosses the Stillwater River.
Orono Main Street Pedestrian Improvements

Project Purpose: To make pedestrian improvements along US Route 2 (Main Street) in Orono.
Saint George River Bridge Replacement

Project Purpose: To replace the State Route 17 bridge over the Saint George River, which provides a vital connection between Augusta and Rockland.
US Route 1A Reconstruction

Project Purpose: To reconstruct a portion of US Route 1A from Milbridge to Harrington.
Route 11/157 Rehabilitation
Recipient: Maine Department of Transportation

Project Purpose: To rehabilitate State Route 11/157 from Medway to Millinocket.
Western Maine Transportation Services Workforce Transit Project
Recipient: Maine Department of Transportation
Project Location: Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Oxford, and Somerset Counties, ME
Amount Requested: $5,108,000
Project Purpose: To purchase transit vehicles and associated infrastructure for workforce and regional public transportation
In 2021, Congress reinstituted Congressionally Directed Spending. Following this decision, Senator Collins has secured more than $500 million for hundreds of Maine projects for FY2022 and FY2023.
