Collins, King Meet Eddington Girl Named Maine’s “Champion Child” by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today met Alisa Pelkey of Eddington who was recently recognized as the 2016-2017 “Champion Child” by Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals and honored today at a ceremony held on Capitol Hill. Pelkey was critically injured in a car crash four years ago, and has been recognized by CMN Hospitals for her remarkable recovery.

“It was a pleasure to meet Alisa today and recognize her strong will and positive attitude – both in her recovery and in her efforts to raise awareness and help others,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Alisa is a shining example of the resilient spirit and dedication to others that define our state, and she continues to make Maine proud.”

Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals is a non-profit organization that raises funds for children’s hospitals, medical research, and public awareness of children’s health issues. Founded in 1983, the organization’s network includes several health care providers in Maine, including Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems (EMHS). The EMHS Foundation Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provides treatment to kids throughout central, eastern, and northern Maine.

Alisa Pelkey received care at EMHS after the car crash. As Maine’s Champion Child, she now serves as an ambassador for the millions of children who receive care at CMN Hospitals.
