Collins, King, Golden Secure $750,000 to Help Husson University Purchase New Medical Equipment

Congressionally-Directed Funds will help address staffing shortages and support facilities and equipment costs at the two veterans facilities

— Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Angus King (I-ME) and Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) announced today that they have secured $750,000 in dedicated funding as part of the 2023 government funding package to help Husson University purchase additional scientific and laboratory equipment for their healthcare programs.

The omnibus funding package passed the Senate by a vote of 68-29 and the House by a vote of 225-201-1. It now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

“Husson University’s healthcare program is doing incredible work to provide world-class educations and help address Maine’s health workforces shortages,” said Senators Collins and King and Representative Golden. “This Congressionally-Directed Spending will help the University acquire the cutting-edge medical equipment they need improve their programs and better serve their students. We’re proud to have helped secure this funding and look forward to seeing its positive impacts for years to come.”

The new equipment and technology will be part of a larger upgrade to Husson’s science and professional health programs that will expand the University’s ability to address Maine’s healthcare and STEM workforce shortages. Husson University is the largest educator of healthcare professionals—registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, mental health counselors and pharmacists—of any public or private institution in Maine north of Portland. The Congressionally-Directed Spending to upgrade Husson’s science laboratory equipment will strengthen the University’s ability to best prepare these critically needed healthcare and STEM professionals.
