WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King released the following statement today on the Navy’s acceptance of the Naval destroyer Zumwalt (DDG 1000):
“The hardworking men and women of Bath Iron Works have once again demonstrated their unrivaled skills by successfully building and delivering to the Navy the world’s most advanced warship,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “We are proud of them for this tremendous accomplishment and join with the rest of the country in thanking them for their continued dedication and service to the defense of our nation.”
The U.S. Navy announced today that it has accepted delivery of the future USS Zumwalt (DDG 1000), the lead ship of the Navy's next-generation of multi-mission surface combatants, which was built at Bath Iron Works.
Senator Collins is a senior member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee and Senator King is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
