WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the Maine Department of Public Safety will receive $978,727 in funding from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program. The funds will support local government programs that help prevent, fight, and prosecute crime and aim to improve the functioning of the criminal justice system in Maine.
“Helping to prevent and prosecute crime is critical to ensuring that Mainers in communities across our state are protected," Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This funding will support local governments throughout Maine as they work to increase safety and provide a secure environment for all Maine people."
The JAG funds are being awarded through the Bureau for Justice Assistance, a component of the Office of Justice Programs within the U.S. Department of Justice.
