Collins, King Announce More Than $30,000 for Portland Fire Department

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will award the Portland Fire Department $31,910 through the Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) program.

“Our firefighters and first responders risk their lives every day to help protect our communities and keep us safe,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “This grant will help ensure that firefighters at the Portland Fire Department have the proper training and skills to support them in their important work.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant was created to help provide funds for fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations so that they can purchase equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources to better protect the public and emergency personnel. FEMA is an agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
