Collins, King Announce More Than $260,000 for Pine Tree Legal Assistance

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King announced today that Pine Tree Legal Assistance will receive two technology grants from the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) totaling $261,250. The first grant for $175,250 will be used for a project benefitting low-income veterans, while the second grant for $86,000 will be used for improvements to statewide legal websites.

“For the past five decades, Pine Tree Legal Assistance has been steadfast in its commitment to ensuring all Mainers, regardless of income, have equal access to the justice system,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “This investment will help Pine Tree Legal advance its mission by increasing the usability of legal websites and improving the accessibility of resources for veterans and others.”

Pine Tree Legal Assistance will use the first technology grant to improve the design and content of StateSideLegal.org, the first national website focused exclusively on veterans’ federal legal rights and resources. The project will add new resources for veteran and military families, including best practices for veteran Medical-Legal Partnerships between legal services providers and the health care sector. The second technology grant will support improvements to statewide legal websites based on the usability recommendations made in LSC’s recent Statewide Website Evaluation.
