Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that Cianbro Corp. of Pittsfield will be awarded $23,098,000 from the U.S. Navy for improvements to dry dock number one at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) in Kittery.
“The work done at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard has a direct impact on our national security, and this contract for Cianbro will help make sure that the shipyard is well-equipped to continue its important mission,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “We commend the Navy for investing in PNSY, our national defense, and the Maine economy, and we applaud the men and women at the shipyard for their hard work and dedication.”
This competitively-awarded contract will provide for the fabrication and installation of several enclosures and passageway sections for a new defueling complex to support reactor servicing. The work is expected to be completed by July 2019.
Senator Collins is a senior member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, and Senator King is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
