WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that three Maine fire departments will receive grant awards: Cushing Fire Department will receive $68,096; Standish Fire and Emergency Medical Service will receive $42,750; and Gouldsboro Fire Department will receive $52,155.
“These grants are a valuable source of funding for our fire and rescue personnel, and we have seen firsthand the dramatic difference they make, especially in small, rural communities,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “This federal funding will help the fire departments to purchase equipment and vehicles and to conduct the training and exercises necessary for rescue personnel to perform their jobs well and keep our communities safe.”
All three fire departments are receiving the funding through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). Specifically, the funding will come through AFG’s Operations and Firefighting Safety Program, which provides funding for training, equipment, wellness and fitness, and modifications to the departments’ facilities.
