Collins, King Announce $300,000 Health and Wellness Funding for Wabanaki Community

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Angus King (I-Maine) announced that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded $300,000 to Wabanaki Health and Wellness to bolster the organization’s health services, including its work to address substance use disorders and support nutrition in tribal communities.

“As this pandemic continues to spread across the nation, it is critical that we invest in public health infrastructure to support communities throughout Maine,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Wabanaki Health and Wellness plays a vital role in supporting Maine’s tribal communities, and we’re grateful that this funding will help support this agency’s efforts to support public health during this critical moment.”

Established in 1996, Wabanaki Health and Wellness is a not-for-profit organization for tribally-enrolled Native Americans in Penobscot, Washington, and Aroostook Counties.
