U.S. Senator Susan Collins today announced that Coastal Counties Workforce, Inc. of Brunswick will receive $1,846,409 in grant funding from the United States Department of Labor.
The funding comes as part of the President’s Community-Based Job Training Grants Initiative that today awarded $125 million to 69 community colleges and community-based organizations around the nation. The Initiative will help the selected institutions better prepare students for careers in high-growth industries.
Coastal Counties Workforce will use its funding to concentrate its efforts on the healthcare and nursing sectors. The program will develop and expand curricula for training in MRI, CT, ultrasound, and mammography scanning. Nursing and Certified Nursing Assistant programs will also be developed.
“I am excited to announce this funding,” noted Senator Collins. “This funding will help expand the capacity of our community colleges to help meet the needs of the high-growth and high-demand healthcare industry. With the Baby Boom now firmly upon us, it is critically important that Maine’s hospitals and healthcare centers have the staff they need to provide the best care to Mainers. I strongly supported the awarding of this funding.”
Senator Collins sent a letter to Labor Secretary Elaine Chao in November urging her support for this funding.
