BRAC COMMISSIONERS VISIT BRUNSWICK NAVAL AIR STATION

(Washington, D.C.)--- Today BRAC Commission Chairman Anthony Principi and BRAC Commissioners Lloyd W. Newton, James H. Bilbray and Philip Coyle visited Brunswick Naval Air Station. Maine Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and Maine Representatives Tom Allen and Mike Michaud issued the following statement:

"We thank BRAC Commission Chairman Principi and Commissioners Newton, Billbray and Coyle for coming to the last remaining fully-capable naval air station in the Northeast. Today they had the opportunity to see firsthand the strengths and value of this air station, and thereby the weaknesses in the Navy=s arguments for realignment. We hope that they will take from this visit an understanding of Brunswick's indispensable value in surveillance and interdiction of our northeast borders and maritime approaches along Atlantic shipping lanes – and that abandoning the air station would leave an entire region less protected."
