$650,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Kennebec Valley Secured by Senator Collins

Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins announced today that she secured $650,000 in the Fiscal Year 2022 Housing Appropriations bill to support the construction of a new youth center and sports facility in Gardiner.  As the Ranking Member and lead Republican on the Housing Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Collins co-authored the Housing Appropriations bill.

The omnibus funding package passed the House and the Senate and now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

“Community institutions are wonderful assets for towns that bring families and neighbors together,” said Senator Collins.  “I strongly advocated for this funding for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Kennebec Valley, which provides childcare for working families, creates a safe, structured environment for children to play and learn, and offers services to seniors.”

“The Boys & Girls Clubs of Kennebec Valley is incredibly grateful for Senator Collins' support for the families, children, and community members that our organization serves in Kennebec Valley,” said Ingrid Stanchfield, CEO of Boys & Girls Club of Kennebec Valley.  “This gift ensures that our new Clubhouse will be finished in August, we will move in debit free, and we will continue to provide positive stable programs for children of all ages, which is more important now than ever before.”

The funding secured by Senator Collins will be used to construct a new youth center that will provide quality, reliable childcare and youth programs for children ages six weeks to high school.  The facility will also serve as a senior citizen center.
