Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a senior member of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today that she secured $200,000 for a new generator for Fish River Rural Health’s Madawaska Clinic in the Fiscal Year 2022 Health and Human Services Appropriations bill.
The omnibus funding package passed the House and the Senate and now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
“This new generator will make an enormous difference for the people of Madawaska and the health care providers at Fish River Rural Health’s Madawaska Clinic,” said Senator Collins. “Mainers in every part of the state should be able to receive the vital health care services they need without interruptions from power outages, which jeopardize access to care. A generator will also protect refrigerated and frozen vaccine supplies.”
“Senator Collins continues to prioritize healthcare for the St. John Valley. Fish River Rural Health is sincerely grateful for her ongoing commitment,” said Fish River Rural Health CEO Heather Pelletier. “The Madawaska clinic generator will benefit patients and personnel with a reliable power source for uninterrupted, high-quality healthcare.”
Fish River Rural Health’s Madawaska Clinic is an important health care provider for Madawaska and the surrounding region. The clinic has experienced several power outages in the past that have caused appointment cancellations for needed health care services. The lack of a generator has also proven dangerous for staff who must transport vaccine supplies during power outages.
