$2 Million for Maine Veterans’ Homes Secured by Senator Collins in Funding Bill in First Key Step

Washington, D.C.--U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a senior member of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she secured $2 million for renovations and upgrades at Maine Veterans’ Homes (MVH) in the draft Fiscal Year 2023 Health & Human Services appropriations bill.  The bill, which was officially released by the full Senate Appropriations Committee today, must still be voted upon by the full Senate and House.

“Maine Veterans’ Homes provides compassionate, quality long-term care to the brave men and women who served our country,” said Senator Collins.  “At a time when there is already a severe shortage of nursing home beds, MVH’s facilities in rural parts of our state fill a critical need and allow Maine veterans to remain close to their loved ones.  These investments will help MVH perform necessary maintenance and upgrades to ensure that these homes remain safe for residents.  As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to champion this funding as the appropriations process moves forward.”

The funding would support needed renovations and life-safety upgrades at Maine Veterans Homes, such as HVAC improvements, sewer pipe installation, and fire alarm system replacements.
