Washington, D.C.—U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a senior member of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, announced today that she secured $1,620,000 to expand substance abuse prevention and treatment services in the Fiscal Year 2022 Health and Human Services Appropriations bill.
The omnibus funding package passed the House and the Senate and now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
“Last year, there were approximately 8,000 drug overdoses in our state, and 636 Mainers died–a tragic record. A variety of organizations across Maine are stepping up to meet community needs and battle the opioid crisis through an all-of-the-above approach,” said Senator Collins. “By supporting prevention, treatment, and recovery programs, this funding will expand vital assistance to Mainers who are struggling with addiction and help combat the opioid crisis.”
Details on the four Maine substance abuse prevention and treatment projects Senator Collins requested are below:
Milestone Recovery’s Detoxification Program
Location: Portland, ME
Amount: $690,000
Purpose: To support Milestone’s substance use services, including the establishment of an Intensive Outpatient Program.
City of Augusta’s Project Recovery Pilot Program
Amount: $265,000
Purpose: To implement a pilot program centered on improving treatment and recovery resources
for people struggling with for substance use disorders.
Northern Light – Mercy Hospital McAuley Women’s Recovery Program
Location: Bangor, ME
Amount: $510,000
Purpose: To support the renovation of a facility to better support women in recovery from substance use disorders with clinically-oriented recovery services.
York Hospital Recovery Center: Opioid Treatment, Prevention & Recovery Supports
Location: York, ME
Amount: $155,000
Purpose: To expand substance use disorder prevention efforts, improve access to treatment, and strengthen recovery resources and supports in southern Maine.
