Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Susan Collins, a senior member of the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that she secured $1,500,000 for age-friendly renovations at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor in the draft Fiscal Year 2022 Health and Human Services Appropriations bill. The bill, which was officially released by the full Appropriations Committee yesterday afternoon, must still be voted upon by the full Senate and House.
“St. Joseph Hospital provides world-class health care services to thousands of people each year, including a high percentage of older Mainers in the region,” said Senator Collins. “This funding will help make needed, age-friendly renovations to the hospital’s 60-year-old facilities, improving its ability to care for our aging population and enhancing the overall inpatient experience. I will continue to champion this funding as the appropriations process moves forward.”
In addition to the physical infrastructure improvements, the funding will help St. Joseph Hospital provide additional staff training on how best to care for patients with dementia.
